Site rebuild Update 01/02/2009
Site rebuild Update

Just a little progress update.
This page or something close to it will be on the front page. The massive url listing style pages will be moved into different sections. While they are very popular with many, "in fact about 1800 unigue visitors a day visit them almost religiously"  several of the hardcore site fans have asked for a semi normal front page. The gaming news listing and hardware news will remain identicle in layout but will be moved to a different location.

You'll also notice the HD trailer section has been rebuilt. As you can see here.  Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian  After the movie begins to play everything except the video will fade out. A light dimming so to speak...  The lights will automaticly turn back on when the video is over. Or you can click anywhere outside the video to turn the lights back on... The video viewing area has also been rebuilt with what I think are better smoother and sexier colors and lines.

I've also been working on a new encoding style using the recently released adobe F4V file type. These 2 videos "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian and the Defiance HD Trailer" were both encoded using this new format with ffmpeg. When I finish fine tuning the ffmpeg encoding command all new videos on the site will be using this format. Its much higher quality and offers smaller file sizes at extremely low bitrates.

If you see a section that's not quite done just give it a day or so. Its being built as fast as humanly possible...

And Happy New Year Folks!!! I still can't believe its 09 already...

Grumman F6F Hellcat Naval fighter plane plug-in for Flight Sim X launched 12/31/2008
Grumman F6F Hellcat Naval fighter plane plug-in for Flight Sim X launched

A new UK based producer of addons for Microsoft’s Flight Simulator X has launched the first of a range of WWII aircraft to flight simmers through their website. Real Flight’s debut product is a replica of the Grumman F6F Hellcat, the acclaimed carrier based fighter that joined the war in February 1943. Development of the FSX Hellcat has been ongoing by Project Manager Dean Greasley who launched Real Flight in June 2008, and his small team to complete.

Attention to detail has been the key to already gaining positive feedback from forums across the flight sim community. Built only for FSX including SP1, SP2 and Acceleration (no planned version for FS9), the Hellcat has a highly detailed virtual cockpit complete with 3d gauges and authentic textures, as well as switches to arm and use both bombs and rockets, as well as the working drop tank.

Externally the model maker has satisfied the rivet counters with all animations present and correct, including folding wings and the crucial tail hook for those carrier landings. The authentic sound package also adds to the immersion achieved as you open up the throttle and watch how the self shadowing, bump mapping and spectacular highlights bring any of the 12 carefully selected paint schemes to life.
